Heat causes intermittent sound loss by Robert S. Zippin
This setup is by far the best for the money. When I originally unpacked it and put it in the cabinet, the amp put out so much heat that the sound would go off for a few seconds after about 2 hours of play. I called Onkyo who said they never heard of such a thing and I should do a hard start(push power and vcr together) and if that didn't work I should drive the amp 30 miles to the nearest repair center. In the process of playing with the amp I pulled the cabinet away from the wall and pushed the amp to the back of its shelf so that I could get to the connections. Every time I did that, the intermittent sound loss stopped. I realized that the shelf above the amp did not block the amp vents when the amp was pushed to the back of the cabinet. I removed the shelf above the amp which gave the amp about 6 inches to vent the heat and from that time on there has been no sound loss and I have kept the amp running for 10 hours at a time. There are suggestions not to block the vent but it is a safety not a performance suggestion.

I would recommend this product to a friend, but not to insert in a cabinet without proper ventilation.

Sourround sound by Scottish
I have to say I bought this surround sound system based on the great reviews on this site. I think it is worth every penny and more. I hooked up my Xbox, Wii and HDTV is a snap (don't forget to buy the HDMI cables) and simply can't believe the incredable sound this system produces. I watched Matirx revolution and thought I was in a threatre. I plan to purchase another system for my living room to play music, the first one is in the game room.

Good, but has some flaws by skrishna
I purchased the Harmony One remote to replace my two year old Harmony 880 remote. The 880 had been having significant problems with the Volume/Channel Up & Down buttons, and I'd heard that wasn't an issue in the Logitech Harmony.

Setup was a snap, as I was able to import the settings from my old remote to this one. I like the look and feel of the remote. It's easy to use and the buttons are easy to depress. The backlighting is a very nice feature. Also, the remote sits snugly in its cradle, unlike the Harmony 880, which took careful pressure in order to get it to charge properly.

The touch screen works pretty well, but it's easy to accidentally press the wrong button if you aren't looking closely.

My main issue with this remote was: about 30 days after I got it, I noticed the "off" button was getting harder and harder to press. I contacted Logitech and they promptly sent me a refurbished remote as a replacement. I appreciated the quick response and that I wasn't required to send my old remote back (they just deactivated it in the system so I can't make updates to it), but that doesn't change the fact that I only had a new remote for 30 days before I had to settle for a refurbished one. If this remote continues to work well, and so far it has, I'll have no complaints, but it's something to think about.

Well designed home theater package for the price by Warren W. Smith
I just received this system last week and spent the better part of the Labor Day weekend setting it all up along with my new projector and screen. I paired the speakers with the Sanus speaker mount system to hang the front, rear and center channels. Another reviewer has already detailed the differences between this model and the next cheaper model below so I won't go into that. I would say I think it is work the extra $100 or so to get this one over the S5300 and am glad I went that route for the extra features.

It did not take long to unpack and set up into my entertainment center. I had already pre-wired my home theater room with 14/2 speaker wire to where all the speakers would go so set up went quickly. The auto setup for the speakers was a snap and the system sounds great. I have a satellite receiver (very old model with old connections only available) connected via composite cables and a PS3 for BD DVD/gaming via HDMI. The output is connected to an Optoma HD20 projector via the HDMI out. Once I read the instructions more clearly on how to configure the one input for the composite cables I quickly cleared a problem I had with audio but no video output when using the satellite receiver for TV. The picture looks great with the upconvert and now I wonder if I want to upgrade to HD TV receiver in the near future to maximize the potential of the system. With the BD DVD the picture is also fantastic and the sound is perfect, making for a great home theater experience. I do not as of yet own any Blue Ray DVDs, but have tried a few regular DVDs which look great. The iPOD doc is a handy bonus which also works and sounds great.

I had pre-wired the room some time back and only wired it for 5.1 so I am currently not using 2 of the speakers. I may add them in sometime in the future when I get more time and find a way to do it without making too much of a mess of the room. As it is, with just the 5.1, the sound is great and I have no complaints. I would have given it 5 stars, but as another reviewer mentioned, the system does get hot. I have not had any problems with the system shutting down however, and just notice when I put my hand in there to check it out of curiosity. I hope that it doesn't become a problem in the future, but I also do not have much experience with these types of systems as this is my first home theater receiver/sound system. I still have not played with all of the many, many features available by the system as I must admit I do not even understand them all. But out of the box with very little adjustments on my part it works great and easily met all of my expectations. I am pleased with the purchase and would recommend it to others.

    Works Great! by G. Grote
We bought this for the bedroom ... we have a very simple setup - Yamaha surround receiver, Philips DVD player, Samsung LCD, and DirecTV receiver - but we bought this model because it has a very similar (though not identical) keypad layout to the Harmony 900 that we have in the living room for about $100 less (we didn't need RF in the bedroom).

My only complaint with the setup is that the software can't manage multiple remotes, so they force you to create a completely separate "account" for each remote, with different login info ... so that was annoying (and not communicated well in the documentation), but I got over it once I figured it out, because you really don't have to change the programs on these things once you get them set up.

    Simply Amazing by Movie Guy
I've had the 391 for a couple of days now and am very impressed. While I did consider the 591 and other models in the current Denon line, I've been on a "simplicty" kick here recently and have been seeking out high quality components that give me the features I really want without the added cost and complications of the features that I do not want.

My main pre-purchase concern was that a receiver at this price point, even from Denon, would sound underpowered and thin. This is definitely not the case. Its powering 5 Polk speakers (TSi200 fronts, Tsi100 surrounds, CS10 center along with a HSU sub) with no problem. The sound is strong and clear with room to spare. Having configured other Denon receivers in the past, manual setup was a breeze. The 391 has more than enough HDMI and other inputs to meet my current and future needs. The FM tuner seems to be especially strong.

Five years ago, I couldn't have imagined a receiver with these features and of this quality for $250.00. Denon has an entry level winner here; strongly recommended for those seeking excellent 5.1 audio at this price point.

I was really torn about getting this vs. the 608, but after reading about some issues with the 608's signal processing, I decided to save some dough and get the 508 (I really only need 2 HDMI inputs for my media room anyway). Boy am I glad I did. I used the microphone Audussy II tuning feature, and was completely tuned in 10 mins. I have a Panasonic ae4000 projector, and on a 11 foot screen, this is like IMAX at home (BETTER!). The sound and picture are absolutely incredible (the PS3 is one of the best Bluray players out there, so you do not need your AV receiver to process the signal). I can't believe how powerful this 80 watts per channel sounds on the inexpensive BIC speakers I purchased at Amazon (DV64, DV62, V-1220, and HT8W). The room is 15X20, and I really can't turn up the volume above 65 without it being too loud (60 is about right, but loud; 100 is max). It also made me realize how UNcalibrated my Denon 1803 without Audussy is in my living room. On the 508, I can hear the dialog perfectly - even in low volumes; I have to crank the old Denon, and I still have problems hearing speech clearly. For 250 bones, I am seriously thinking of getting another 508 for downstairs. The AV pairs perfectly with the PS3 via HDMI, and I have not had any problems with it being able to pull the sound from the Bluray in lossless form (dolby true HD). I really don't understand how this thing can be so inexpensive.

On the downside: if you are connecting to a TV, you will have to power on the receiver to get the HDMI signal to pass through - not a concern for me since a projector does not have its own speakers - but if you want your TV speakers only (maybe to save electricity), you will have to run another cable directly from your source to the TV.

Secondly, I noticed it getting very hot when placed in an enclosed cabinet (open in front with holes in the back and 2" clearance around). I ended up cutting a hole in the back of my cabinet, and attaching a cheap computer fan blowing out. This completely solved the problem as it runs very cool now - even for 8 hours cranked - without any noise. I suspect many failures noted here may have to do with placement and overheating.

All in all, an unbelievable bargain!

Exceptional Value by Vacco V. Quill
Received this turntable for my birthday and couldn't be happier with it. Easy operation, minimal setup, quality sound. I hadn't listened to my LP's in quite a while since my last turntable suddenly died about 5 years ago. I took this out of the box and had it setup in about five minutes. Simple controls and presto listening to classics that you probably couldn't even find on CD today. Have only had it for about a month so I can't comment on longevity. My only issue with the product was that it was not shipped in an additional box, just the box that you would see displayed in a store labeled with my shipping address on it. I was surpised that it even got to me without being stolen. Also the box was pretty beaten by the time it got to me but the turntable suffered no damage. Highly recommend the product, just improve the shipping.

    Pioneer equals quality by Migz7
I've owned about 5 Pioneer receivers and the main reason I go back to them is because they never have broken down on me. Pioneer receivers are super reliable. Now, I've owned from the very inexpensive low budget receivers to their high end Elite models. And this receiver performs like an Elite. The sound quality is top notch. You will really appreciate the sound quality if you have a bluray player and connect it through your HDMI. Unfortunately for me I have a "fat" PS3 witch does not output Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio but even so it still plays the raw PCM audio and it sounds way better than standard Dolby Digital or DTS. I also have an Xbox 360 and its hooked up through HDMI and it sounds great. Actually my 360 is also hooked up to my Turtle Beach headset through optical which is cool because I didn't know the 360 could output sound simultaneously through the the optical and HDMI. So sound is a big thumbs up and other than that everything else works like a charm. I recommend using the included mic to calibrate your speakers. I think there are 6 memory slots to store speaker calibrations. I'm still tinkering with other features but as of right now I have no regrets buying the Pioneer VSK-1020-K. I highly recommend it!

Great receiver, however Amazon's pricing leaves a bit to be desired by J. Beadles
I really like the receiver. It does everything that I've asked it to do so far.

As for packaging, it's shipped in the Onyko box, with no protective (or privacy) box around it, so anyone who sees the box knows exactly what's in it. Not cool.

A week after I received it, I found it for a lower price (~$100), however since Amazon doesn't post-purchase price match, I'm out of luck.

Shipping was fine via amazon prime, and was received on time.

Great value; good product. by Fred Humphreville
There appears to be an issue with signal/video upscaling. A television program that doesn't need to be upscaled to my Samsung Plasma TV was made to jerk by the receiver as opposed to the smooth, fluid picture when straight from the cable box. The HDMI cables I am using are high quality and rated fast.
