I purchased this system for July 4th 2010. I have been using every day since then and love it. It looks great and sounds fantastic. It is excellent for the inside. If you have a large yard and a big party the volume is not enough, the HC40 might be better.

Nice mid-level AVR by Ryan Hamm
I've really been enjoying my 708. It runs cool enough to be fine inside my tv console with the door closed. Another thing I like is it comes with RIHD (disabled by default) which basically means it talks to my Samsung TV that also has RIHD. I can control the AVR volume with my tv remote. The TV automatically turns off it's own speakers and outputs sound to the 708 if the 708 is on. Otherwise, it just uses it's own speakers. Also, if I turn off my tv it automatically turns off the 708 for me.

Networking with Windows 7 was a breeze as well. All I had to do was make sure Windows Media Player allowed the 708 to use it and I was good to go.

Getting internet radio was also easy. I didn't have to do anything special to get it to work. It's nice to be able to listen to net radio without having my computer turned on. vTuner is nice since it has several local stations. I've always loved Pandora and this makes it that much better.

Switching inputs does take a few seconds but that's not really something I care about and wouldn't have really noticed if people hadn't asked about it due to issues with previous Onkyo models.

I use my fat PS3 to watch Blu-Ray movies and they look the same as they did before which is great. It seems to do surround sound just fine through the PS3 as well using Linear PCM. The analog tv signal also looks the same as it did before.

I haven't hooked up my PC through this yet but will get around to it and update my review.

Excellent but more difficult with older equipment by Booklover
Right out of the box this appears to be a well-designed, quality receiver. It will work best if you have updated, state of the art equipment. Unfortunately, I don't so we ran into a few glitches. If all your equipment is already connected via hdmi, the hookup will be easy. Because we had older equipment without hdmi connections, we struggled and found some frustration.

For example, believe it or not, we still have a turntable. Even stranger, we still occasionally use it. There is no phono hookup on this receiver. I had to email Onkyo and ask how to hook up an old school turntable. It took more than a week to receive a reply. Finally, I received an answer--and an apology for the delay--and was told I needed a phono pre-amp. That will cost an extra $20 or so.

Another thing you need to be aware of is the IPOD dock is sold separately. It appears in the product specifications that it's ready to go, but that is not the case.

All in all, it's a nice unit at a great price. Just be aware that if you have outdated equipment you're in for some frustration.

Works great from London! by Consumer
Received this unit in December 2009 and have been using it in London, UK ever since. We use it daily to listen to Sirius (mostly Howard 100) and it works great. The power adapter supports 220v so no converter needed! Initially the unit would freeze quite a bit but recent firmware upgrades have since fixed this. It still freezes occasionally but cycling the power resolves that easily. Logitch has been releasing firmware upgrades pretty regularly and it has only improved the reliability of this radio (however a recent upgrade has now caused the radio to sometimes respond to our television remote inadvertently, but no big deal it just makes a funny sound). The sound quality is great and this unit can get very loud which is perfect for our flat. Tip: mac users can use the dashboard's widget feature to make a quick remote control for the ratio. Just log into logitech's mysqueezebox website to control your radio and make a widget out of it. Finally you can get lots of local radio stations easily on it, even obscure small stations from the NY metro area are listed, which is great when away from home.

Excellent Receiver . by KKKK

Excellent Audio and Video.

I had the following problems

The Onkyo Tech Support is not good.I called onkyo yesterday, for internet radio setup and problems,I was told that the person who knows about Internet Radio setup has left for the day.

2.I have 20M.. internet.I played vTuner and to get connected receiver takes at least 3-4 minutes to play the station, and within 2 minutes automatically jumped another station available.I tried with India FM and Telugu one online radio and even tried adding to favourites.Jumps on its own to next available in vTuner.

I played vTuner with Seagate Freeagent theater+ , within seconds gets connected to vTuner and plays forever.

3.Remote Control sometimes does not respond.

I dont know wether these problems are with receiver I am having or with all of them

I like my 550... I LOVE my One. by tlniec
I've had a Harmony 550 for a couple of years now, which I use to control my basement home theater setup (Mitsubishi projector, Sony Blu-Ray player and A/V receiver, Toshiba HD-DVD player, Samsung HDTV tuner, Motorola cable box, and an XBox 360 -- all sources mounted on a rack behind the screen wall, controlled via IR extender system). I still really like that remote -- it was intuitive to set up and operate, had pretty good aesthetics and hand feel, and has been rock-solid reliable ever since I got it set up. Plus, it handles a diverse array of devices with aplomb.

Late last year, I overhauled my bedroom A/V setup and I knew I was on the verge of creating a new A/V setup for the living room. These would be simpler than the basement HT, sure, but would still involve multiple sources per display (with the living-room sources located on the same rack as the basement ones -- so good, reliable operation is important since you can't look at the devices to confirm power on/off, etc). I knew I'd want another Harmony remote, hopefully one I could set up to share between the two locations.

My search originally led back to the 550. However, it was now discontinued, and the remaining units I could find were priced well above what I had paid for the one I have. I was aware of the One, but I figured its price was beyond what I was willing to spend -- I checked Amazon anyway, and imagine my surprise when I found it was ~$100 less than my local stores. I had to go for it.

All that background aside, I'll now get to the point. Since the 550 is what I knew prior to the One, I'm going to treat it as sort of my benchmark.

I like my Harmony 550 -- but I LOVE my One. First, and most importantly, it doesn't have any less functionality than the 550 (unlike the 510 that supposedly "replaced" the 550). In fact, it actually has some additional function (TV channel favorites, for example). It supports plenty of devices (15). It has the great soft buttons (except now on a TOUCHSCREEN - awesome). And, its aesthetics and ergonomics are substantially better than the 550. Setup is done via the tried-and-true web-based interface, so it was very familiar to me.

Some additional positives about the One -- it has a rechargeable battery with a charging cradle, so no need to periodically replace/recharge NIMH AAA batteries like I do with the 550. Some additional handy hard buttons (which can of course be custom-programmed for each activity and/or device). Better location of transport keys, and they can now be distinguished by feel. Backlight comes on whenever the remote is picked up (versus only after a several hour delay on the 550).

Dislikes -- relative to the 550, none; I honestly feel the One is superior in every way. In general -- there are a few areas where I see room for improvement. First, it'd be nice if you weren't locked into 3 activities per page on the touchscreen... an option to select between a few different configurations (maybe 3, 4, or 6 for example) would be welcome. Second, when using it for two different rooms, you either have to power off everything in room A before starting an activity in room B, or remember to re-start the activity from room A before returning there (if you re-launch the activity while in line-of-sight for that room, chances are things will get out of sync, unless you've got a miracle system with no toggles - just discrete commands for everything). I can't really demerit the remote for this, since it isn't designed nor advertised for multi-room use -- but I would give Harmony HUGE thanks if they could add multi-room capability via a software update (basically allow the user to set up a simultaneity matrix for activities). And last, but not least, when using TV channel favorites I find that the remote sends the required three number presses more slowly than I can send them by manually keying in the numbers (even with inter-key delay set to 0 ms) -- likewise for sequences I've set up that navigate thru menus with directional keypresses. It's a nit for me, though, because it doesn't hinder functionality -- ultimately the favorites and sequences still work.

So, in a nutshell... great remote. Buy one (or two, if Harmony never decides to implement my wonderful multiroom suggestion :D )!

Had to give 5 Stars by Deeked
I am 42 and installing home theater equipment is not as easy as they once used to be, because of the lack of time and patience I have these days, but everything went very well. I didn't even open the manual to do the hookups, I just went off my experience with the past 5 or so Home Theater Receivers I've had in the past.

After connecting all my inputs and the one HDMI output to my Samsung 58" HDTV, I merely went through the setup menu and very easily figured out how to assign and rename all the appropriate devices I had connected. In total I have an XBOX 1, XBOX 360, Wii, VHS player and a Verizon FIOS receiver. (I don't like games very much LOL)

The sound and video for all my devices work perfect for me especially after using the Audyssey setup. Everything calibrated wonderfully and the sound options are great once you are finished.

PS: I also purchased these Atlantic Satellite SPSCUR47 2 Speaker Stands (Titanium) and that made all the difference in the world with my speaker placement. If you don't have your speakers set up properly, you don't know what you are missing.

I'm not much for writing reviews, but I hope this helps someone out.

BUT Don't Buy Until Accessory Pack Is Available by Gary Hazen
Like a lot of others, I have been waiting for Logitech to make available the promised Accessory Pack for the Squeezebox Radio. The Accessory Pack includes a remote control plus a battery pack that makes the radio portable and shows as selling for $49.99 on the Logitech website. Unfortunately, this Accessory Pack has never been generally available even when shown as "In Stock" on their site. For others who have been waiting, today (July 1) I received a new projected availability date of July 25 - with no promises.

In addition, when I registered my Squeezebox Radio with Logitech, they sent me a coupon code for my next purchase if used within 30 days. When I tried to use the code to Preorder the Accessory Pack, the site would not accept the code. When I contacted Logitech Sales Support, I was told that coupon codes cannot be used to buy accessories!! What did Logitech think that customers would want to use the coupon for??

Since the Accessory Pack has never been generally available, and because Logitech has had more than six months to address the problem; and because Logitech's coupon practices are very questionable, I find it hard to recommend Logitech as a company to do business with. If the Accessory Pack is important to you, I WOULD NOT BUY A SQEEZEBOX RADIO UNTIL LOGITECH MAKES THE ACCESSORY PACK AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE. And DO NOT TRUST THE LOGITECH WEBSITE when it says that the Accessory Pack is "In Stock" - wait until the website no longer shows "Preorder" on the Accessory Pack product page.

Logitech's questionable practices are especially unfortunate given that the Squeezebox Radio, itself, is a very good product. In fact, when I bought the radio, I thought that I would only be able to access internet radio stations by subscribing to various internet radio providers such as Pandora. I was not looking forward to this effort. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the radio does not require subscriptions or registration with any other services. Once set-up and connected to your computer network, hundreds of radio stations, local, national (by city), and wordwide are immediately available without any additional internet radio services being required! And WIFI setup and Logitech registration were easy and trouble-free. Way to go Logitech from a product standpoint!! Too bad Logitech can't treat customers right!

Great sound and video, remote is too complex by Kenneth R. Williams
Bought this instead of the new 1020 because of the great 2009 reviews, did not need the new features such as 3D, and the price was $100 less. The sound and video is great. The automatic MCACC worked good, only had to adjust the crossover. Only real annoyance is the remote that is too complex. Took me awhile to realize there are 2 buttons called RECEIVER. Once setup, it is working great.

Great for the bedroom by Leonard H. Hudson
I bought this for the bedroom. It charges my iTouch at night and I get to listen to a little music while the sleep timer shuts it off later. The bluetooth even works to my iTouch if I forget it in the car. It's probably not great if you were looking at it to fill a larger area. While it has a pretty good sound at a regular kind of level, it probably would not perform well enough for a large living room. It is great for the purpose for which it was purchased, my bedroom.

Good value by barabas
Pros: Appearance, quality, sound, ease of use, 5 year warranty, price.

Cons: Still searching

I hooked this up thru the high level speaker inputs using 10 gauge wire. With the volume set at halfway the house was rattling and shaking so I turned the volume down to 1/4. To relieve the fronts of bass duty I turned up the low pass crossover to 140hz. The bass is tight, thumpy, well defined but not muddy or boomy sounding. Though I bought this item primarily for DVD movies I'm really impressed how well it sounds when playing all types of music. This sub performs well beyond the built in 50 watt amp's power rating. The only cheap thing about this sub is the price. I highly recommend it.
