Pleasantly surprised by C. Horan
Personally, I've loved these things, they don't sound cheap but rather actually better than many other speakers I've tried, including the pol PSi100's (sp?) and Klipsch B-3. I can't speak for others but these were able to reproduce the full spectrum of sound without overpowering other frequencies.

I've been powering them with a harman kardon 3490 receiver to give more context (great steal for the price). They were able to reproduce both the lows of a bass guitar and the high-pitched symbols of a drummer, without making it muddy or overly bright. This may sound like a "perfect speaker!!!" review, but they really are spectacular. For those who complained about lack of bass, they are rear-ported so placement matters, and your receiver can make a difference. I have them about 2.5 feet from the wall, and let me say that I really did not believe the range they had until I did an A/B comparison with the klipsch. I'll not go on though and go straight to the point.

Pros:

Extremely tight bass

The highs are clearly present without overrepresenting themselves (ala the klipsch).

Reproduces a broad spectrum of detailed sound ranging from highs to lows

Mids not overpowered; speakers neither muddy nor bright

Can handle a good amount of power (by which I mean you can crank them up enough to hear them strongly from 10 feet away)

Small footprint and great design (I don't really care much about this, but put it in as others do).

Cons:

The speakers suffer the limitations inherent in smaller bookshelf speakers.

While they produce detailed sound, it almost feels like the complexities you'd expect from a pricier speaker are there but "trapped" in the small frame.

They are awesome for a small room but should be relegated to rears for a large one. Simply can't get the proper muscle out of this sized speaker.

Highs, specifically symbols, can border on the klipsch brightness that turns people off when listening critically.

-----------

An important issue is how these speakers could be so great yet with their prices slashed and virtually unknown. For one, Jamo has a strong presence outside the US. Go to their website and you'll see they make speakers upwards of $1,000, have a wide selection and are quite professional. They've won awards but not in the states.

The question of pricing is much more of an educated hypothesis than fact. I get the feeling that these speakers are being marked down so much because Jamo is both phasing out the lines they are from (example: the "E" series isn't even on their site) and trying to penetrate into the American market. Its a good opportunity for them to unload their inventory while at the same time building up brand recognition in the US by enticing people with these outrageously large discounts compared to the list value and hoping for positive reactions and word of mouth.
