Amazing value, all the bells ane whistles by Bob Buddy
For $350 you can't beat this nice piece. Six HDMI inputs, all the latest Audessy tune-up tricks, and more bells and whistles than I'll ever use. But the instructions are typical, namely written at a grade school level and leaving out some important info about features. To be fair, you really need to be an engineer to understand all the details of today's AVRs. I know; I'm a EE and lifelong AV nut, and it's rough going for me. They should include a guide for newbies and another one for AV enthusiasts who don't need diagrams to hook up a speaker.

Great Backpacking Radio by Matt
I wanted a small portable radio for backpacking and had researched Eton's other products in the past. None of those radios had all the features I wanted. When I saw the scorpion I knew it was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a radio that would not be too heavy to carry in my overnight pack but included features such as line-in, backup cell phone usb charger, and weather alert channels.



After receving my Scorpion the other day I have used it extensivly and am very pleased with the device. It is very well built and is perfect for some music around the fire after a long day of hiking.



As far as each features are concerned. Flashlight - Decent LED flashlight. Good for finding your way around in the dark. Not my primary flashlight but its on par with every other crank flashout out there. Radio - Digital tuner is great. Picks up stations very well (I live in the middle of nowhere). Sound quality - The sound quality is what I expected. It is about the same quality as most standard clock radios. It's nothing special but I wanted a rugged radio that didnt have the hassle of making sure you have charged batteries. If sound quality and size is a top priority look for portable iPod docks such as JBL's On-Stage. It does play loud. Note: when using the line-in function the volume control on the unit does not function. Volume is controlled by external device (ipod, phone, etc).



Overall its a great portable small radio for any type of outdoor adventure. I have since used it for picnics and bbq's where larger radios are more of a hassle then what they are worth.

Knowing that I was going to upgrade to an hdtv with hdmi, I started shopping for a new receiver to replace my old Yamaha with no hdmi. I really thought I would just buy another Yamaha, but after researching and reading many reviews from many different sources my brand loyalty was soon to change. CNET gave very favorable reviews for this Onkyo with no downside at a very good price for what you get. Knowing that the Yamaha, Sony, Denon and others had lukewarm reviews I decided to take the plunge and buy the Onkyo. I am very pleased with the receiver. It sounds great! The audysey sound was easy to follow which allows the receiver to dial the sound right for the sweetspot of where you will be sitting. The onscreen display mades setup very easy. I also like the idea of less cables which means less spaghetti in my audio cabinet. Since I am no techie, I am sure I am only using a small part of its potential. The remote is easy to use and sync with my cable remote and my wife and kids now have it figured out how to operate it. I put the Onkyo in my cart and noticed after about a week that the price had dropped and without paying taxes I think I saved about 75 bucks and got free shipping.

Wow. Denon sound quality. Discrete amps. Upscaling. 3-D ready. I'm not an employee of Denon, but this has to be the most incredible value in AVR's right now. I checked out a Yamaha with similar stats; it did not have discrete amplification. The sound quality is truly exceptional. In fact, I can't imagine anything sounding better, at least in my theater room. Seriously, you would need specialized equipment to determine any inaccuracy. I would love to have an audiophile do a blind taste test between this and a bang and olafsun. Great job Denon. I'm in for life...

Overall a good value package by J. Mcconnell
This package arrived yesterday for me. There is one large box that contains both the Avatar box and the Samsung box.



Setting up the player was pretty straightforward though they recommend using 802.11N which the player couldn't discover. I tried to manually configure to get the best performance but it didn't take. I resorted to 802.11g which seems to work fine and auto-configured.



The Samsung interface is OK for configuring the machine though the Netflix app is pretty limited. As long as you use a PC for adding to your instant queue and then using the player to select from your queue, you'll be happy. Don't expect to browse thousands of titles with this though.



The player doens't come with a HDMI cable so be sure to have one handy when it arrives.



The Blu-Ray picture looked amazing on my Samsung LCD TV and although the discs take a little while to spin up, I understand that's common amongst all players.



I have a Bose theatre system and the Bose multi-function remote works great with the player.

Great Speakers but don't be fooled... by Robin Hood
I searched high and low for these speakers because of CNET and so many other reviews that spoke so highly of these little guys. I came across just one seller with these speakers seeing they were discontinued and before I knew it I had already ordered them and they were on their way. It wasn't, however, until a few days later that I got my tracking information and realized the weights were off. After contacting the seller I realized this was not 1 shipment but two. One was the subwoofer and the other the satellites and center speaker. These were a discontinued PACKAGE but NOT discontinued speakers sold seperately!!! I spent over $150 on speakers I could have bought seperately instead of together. It's no wonder how the seller is making his money. He's buying the speakers himself and selling them in a combo and pocketing the difference. Don't get fooled into this. Save your money and buy them yourself seperately and you'll be happier for it.



As far as the speakers sound quality goes, they sound terrific to me. I bought the Pioneer 1019 Receiver to go with it and a Panasonic Blu Ray and everything is great...just need that new TV now LOL. If you buys these you won't be disapointed, just don't get fooled into paying more money than you should like I did.

The remote is very smart and during the initial setup process I was blown away by how "smart" it was. There was a lot of work put into this thing. I have some obscure equipment (fans, old TV) and it was still able to figure out what my electronics can and can't do, and what I'd like them to do. I only had to tweak certain things (like it turning all my other equipment off when I turned my fan on). I haven't even made it beyond the tip of the iceberg yet with this thing and I'm already blown away. I thought I'd list the price as a con, but I didn't because it is a luxury item, and the price is reasonable for something that you'll own for a long time as it grows alongside your equipment.

Use ALC if you don't like explosive Blu-Rays by Calcifer
You probably have a good feel for this system from the other reviews, but hands down my most favorite thing on this system is its A.L.C. feature. This is an audio parameter that stands for Auto Level Control, which works wonders for those Blu-Rays where you're listening to dialogue at -20dB and suddenly gunshots happen and you are afraid your neighbors are going to come knocking at your door. The A.L.C. is like a dynamic range control that actually does something. It makes these loud explosions and everything come out about even with the dialogue. It will get rid of the "scare tactic" that Blu-Ray uses so well with its audio set-ups, but somedays we just value our hearing and want to watch a movie rather than experience the ride. ALC lets us do this, and for this feature I absolutely love this unit.

For the money the Panasonic SC-HC30 is a very good buy. The sound is very sharp and clear. What I especially liked was I could mount it on the wall very easily. The IPOD mounting dock is a very nice feature. My kids like playing their IPODs and I use it to play my CD's.

I love this remote, but my technically challenged husband has had difficulty with it. It sort of like you can't teach an old dog new tricks syndrome. We had to return one because it didn't charge properly and the customer service from this company was outstanding. All in all, if you have numerous hookups with your TV this will help you with a push of a button, but you need to be patient and be sure to point the remote at your hookups.

I looked for months in finding a a surround sound for my small apartment. The patience paid off because the the onkyo hts-3300 was worth every penny. After assembling the speakers I realized that the left and right surround speakers were not working and after calling support center they had me basically reboot it and everything worked. I have had a few friends come over for the NBA playoffs and they are in shock of the sound and price for what I paid for ($329.00, including shipping) through amazon. The lady friends love the quality of the movies and the sound thanks to my ps3 and now Onkyo.The radio is also a surprising quality especially FM, AM needs work but so do every other home theater systems I tried in stores. Another satisfied customer, thanks to those who posted earlier, very helpful in making my decision
