Better design than S5300 by Y. Ning
This model is basically the same as S5300, with extra features:

1. Can up-convert all video inputs to 1080P and output through HDMI. S5300 can't do this.

2. Comes with a setup mic for Audessy to set up speakers automatically.S5300 doesn't have it.

3. Front Speaker is smaller than those of S5300. I hooked them up on wall they look better. The front speakers of S5300 are much bigger and the rear speakers are much smaller.

4. Subwoofer is taller and narrower than that of S5300. To me that is better.

5. Total weight is like 10lb less than S5300.

It is about $100 more than S5300. You can go with S5300 for cheaper if you don't mind those points above.

Great Product by Justen Aprile
What a great product. Seriously, other companies need to take note of how setup and installation should really go. It was a breeze to get going with the remote, it works like a charm, and is incredibly easy to customize and edit. It's working wonderfully controlling all of my home entertainment products. I couldn't be happier, nor recommend it enough. Thanks Logitech!

A Great Must have by S. Soto
So while i am not a person who wants to spend a lot of money on a remote, i bit the bullet after all my "universal remotes" for all my other devices failed to pair everything i own.

So i got this remote and while the price still chokes me up, i must say my viewing experience has pleasurably increased. It was easy to pair everything. I plan on buying some IR wall adapters so i can set all my lighting up too. This remote does alot.

Only thing that i cant pair is my ps3 but that is not logitech's fault, i blame sony fully on that one... maybe someday soon i will get the add on for that also

Very happy with this product by Douglas Hawley
It's so nice to only have to worry about one remote instead of 3-4. I was a little hesitant to pay 150+ dollars for a remote, but now I'm happy with my decision. My girlfriend raves about it because it makes watching a movie or watching TV as easy as touching one button. I was even able to program the remote to control my Media PC with Windows Media center. To do this you'll have to purchase an IR receiver for you PC.

Sound and Simplicity nearly perfected by Sam
I want to start off by stating I do not own this system, after various tests at Bose retail stores I just couldn't justify the price tag. My first impressions of this system were awe inspiring. I listened to several songs the store had installed and viewed their "theater" demonstration. Both were very powerful, and was nearly convinced to buy them. However at nearly 4 grand I wanted an in depth examine. Next time I came prepared with a playlist of songs ranging from classical to jazz to hip hop to opera and techno. I found the ipod connectivity very good, with the exception of no onscreen display of album art. The sound was great for general listening. I did detect some crackling in the rear speakers, and the dealer informed me its due to Bose decoding trying to create a surround experience from a 2 channel source. Jazz, classical, and techno sounded clean and distinct. However its at the extremes where this system falls short. The Hip hop music I used (T-Pain Bartender) did not offer the punch I expected. The subwoofer does an excellent job with crossing over to the satellites. However, The bass bumps were boomy and not tight. My Harmon/Kardon sound-sticks 2 produce more punch for 1/40 the price!! At the other extreme was opera (Lakme The Flower Duet). Instrumentation sounded clean and spacious. However the sopranos created noticeable distortion. When the singers reach a climactic high around 00:40 the jewel cube speakers created unpleasant vibrations and cracking noises. The dealer insisted it was the quality of the recording. I used AAC files and tried them on my sound-sticks and Bose QC2 with no distortion. In the end the sound seems equivalent to around an $800 system.

Pros: Easy Setup, Natural overall sound, great crossover between sub and satellites, good connectivity

Cons: PRICE, no album art display, boomy bass with little punch, difficulty with high frequencies, no DVD or Blu-ray player

Nice mid-level AVR by Ryan Hamm
I've really been enjoying my 708. It runs cool enough to be fine inside my tv console with the door closed. Another thing I like is it comes with RIHD (disabled by default) which basically means it talks to my Samsung TV that also has RIHD. I can control the AVR volume with my tv remote. The TV automatically turns off it's own speakers and outputs sound to the 708 if the 708 is on. Otherwise, it just uses it's own speakers. Also, if I turn off my tv it automatically turns off the 708 for me.

Networking with Windows 7 was a breeze as well. All I had to do was make sure Windows Media Player allowed the 708 to use it and I was good to go.

Getting internet radio was also easy. I didn't have to do anything special to get it to work. It's nice to be able to listen to net radio without having my computer turned on. vTuner is nice since it has several local stations. I've always loved Pandora and this makes it that much better.

Switching inputs does take a few seconds but that's not really something I care about and wouldn't have really noticed if people hadn't asked about it due to issues with previous Onkyo models.

I use my fat PS3 to watch Blu-Ray movies and they look the same as they did before which is great. It seems to do surround sound just fine through the PS3 as well using Linear PCM. The analog tv signal also looks the same as it did before.

I haven't hooked up my PC through this yet but will get around to it and update my review.

Edit: RIHD has started causing problems. With it enabled I've had times when I would turn on the receiver and get no sound from the speakers. The only things that worked to get sound from the receiver again was to either A)unplug it B) turn off RIHD.

I've also had Pandora lock up the NET/USB input. It would get stuck at 100% buffering. With RIHD on, the only way to get use of the input back was to unplug the receiver and plug it back in. I now have RIHD permanently disable because it's just not worth the hassle.

I've now hooked up my PC through the optical input and it sounds great. The HDMI input is worthless though. My video card outputs to the 16 x 9 resolution my HDTV uses but the 708 is still scaling it to a 16 x 10 ratio which makes the tv cut off some of the top and bottom of the screen. I just went ahead and plugged the computer video back into the tv and only use the 708 for the sound and that works fine.
